Volunteer Opportunities

Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters
– Bigs Needed!
- Big Brothers
- Big Sisters
- Big Couples
Children who are matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister have higher self esteem and are more likely to succeed in school, social situations and family relationships. This is accomplished by the volunteer including the child in his or her life and giving the child a sense of value by feeling like they are cared for. These relationships develop into friendships and give the children a dependable outlet to help them feel good about life.
- Jewish Family Services of Greater Kansas City in cooperation with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City is starting a Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters program to serve school-aged Jewish children primarily from one-parent homes who need the influence of a long term, one to one, developmental relationship with an adult.
- The program is being led by a steering committee of volunteers from the Jewish Community including Amy and Hal Pollack, Debbie Edelman-Sosland, Fern and Jim Badzin, Ellen Polsky, Diana Bright, Benny Harding, Steve P. Katz, Steve Katz, Jim Klein, Suni Rosenboom, and Rabbi Amy Wallk Katz.
- To be eligible for the program, children must be school-aged and have completed the intake process with their parent or guardian.
- Volunteers must be at least 21 years of age, complete a screening and intake process including personal interview, home assessment, background and reference checks. Volunteers share two to three hours per week with a child for a minimum of one year.
For information regarding enrolling a child, volunteering or general information about the program please call Lucia Harding, Senior Case Manager at 816-777-2891.

Share Your Talents
Would you like to" partner" with JFS by donating your special talents - whether it be accounting, resume consultation, medical or dental service, legal expertise, shoveling and gardening skills or any other you can think of - If you have "pro bono" skills which you would like to share, JFS would like to match you with people who would really need them.
Committee Volunteers
You do not have to be a Board Member to help us on one of our committees. We are looking for volunteers to help on our 2007 Friendship Counts Campaign, our 2008 Silent Auction Committee and 2008 Anniversary Celebration Committee. Please email your interest to our Special Events Coordinator (click here).
